Kitchen benchtop

We didn't manage to move last weekend since most of the work has not been completed. Manage to get one week extension from our landlord, so that means we'll need to move by this weekend.

Benchtop being installed by Maslate from Nunawading. Did a decent job in my opinion.

Benchtop was cut to size in factory
Substrate installed to accommodate 40mm edge
Waterfall on edges to avoid kids running onto edges
Extra large sink for E
Cavity for integrated dishwasher
Meanwhile the main contractor has been doing a really good job with the interior painting. Care has been taken to ensure the completed floor is not scratched
Completed hallway. Doors next
Painting living room
Doors prep for final coat
More doors.. 17 in total!

It's no easy job

I've always questioned the reason behind high costs of painting... how hard can rolling the paint on the wall or ceiling be? After looking at the process, I now understand, it's the prep work that takes most of the effort.

Floors covered before painting

The ceiling is then sprayed..
The gloss will be gone when the ceiling paint dries up

Next would be painting the wall, windows, door frame and etc

Floor and painting

It was a long weekend. The contractor took the opportunity to complete the floor and let it cure through the long weekend
The floor is sealed using this product
Did not manage to get the picture of the polish. This is the final layer - gloss
Came back 2 days later and here's the result:

Just what we wanted. Mid gloss with natural timber colour

Paintwork preparation by the contractor. I wanted to do this as my DIY project earlier and I am now grateful I've not taken the DIY path. Definitely a lot of prep work

Scraping off old excess paint before painting a new coat

The house being old, has many cracks and gaps to fill before being painted

Since our lease will be expiring next week, the plan is to move into our new home this weekend. The contractor has been very accommodating and is placing more resource to complete the work in our new home.

Meanwhile, I am moving bits and pieces of furniture onto or holding area - the garage. Rented a trailer for $20 a day from a guy who runs equipment rental business off his home

Floor sanding

Finally the floor is being sanded today. Even before polishing, it's leaps and bounds better compared to the "retro" carpet.

Since the living room at the back was added in the 80s, different timber is being used. Hopefully the end result will hide the ugly joint between the 2 timbers.

Vanity and shower screen installed in the bathroom
